figure chip thinning

Thu, 10/26/2017 - 02:42
I run a lot of 1/2" carbide endmills in 1018. My question is what is the formula for figuring out chip thinning. Say my endmill specs 475 sfm and is 4 flute and recommends .003 to .005 per tooth. Now that is running it the standard way, not high-speed machining. Usually, I like to cut the full length of flutes or full depth of pocket at 10 percent dia. of a cutter. But I am always guessing on the speed and feed. So is there a formula for chip thinning?

Thanks in advance.

Mistubishi Control Set Z-zero in Tool 1

Tue, 10/24/2017 - 11:13
So someone crashed our little Puma 250 with Mitsu controls and it broke tool 1 where the home position/workshift stuff was set. After putting in a new tool in tool 1 and touching it off with the Q-setter, the geometry offset is saying .04 in Z. How do I get it to be zero again?

PS: We don't have the book.

need advice about cnc maintenance services

Thank you. the control side is what I'm getting into these days, turret alignment and motor troubleshooting are fine, but axes alarms can be messed up very easily if you aren't very careful. I would study the fanuc side of things from ancient to new and familiarize yourself with how the alarms relate to different situations.

Fadal 3016fx Fanuc 9081spindle error (al-081) error

Wed, 10/18/2017 - 20:48

I get this error very randomly but mostly when coming out of low gear. I can usually run M84 and fix it but lately it is throwing error 1184 logr calib spdl start error. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Can anyone point me in the right direction it seems it is a physical issue with the belts not getting into position fast enough during spindle orientate. Also I have had the spindle stop and it thinks its orientated but its 10 degrees off setting up for a major tool change crash. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Help with coding cycles on Traub TNA 480 with TX-8 controller

Wed, 10/18/2017 - 14:13
Hello, just noticed your reply.
Basically all the roughing cycles on the TX-8 control take the information from the finishing section/contour of the program. You need to put a line number at the beginning of the finishing contour and another (higher) one at the end of your finishing pass. In the roughing cycle the letters "P" and "Q" refer to these line numbers. It depends on the work you due but in practice you can most likely cover 90% of all roughing with the G71 cycle.

Attached please find a scan from the Traub TX-8D Programming Handbook. Unfortunately it is in German and Metric but nevertheless, the sketches and samples should be self explanatory. Take a look at it and let me know if you need more explanation, information for the other cycles or some translation. I'm a bit pressed for time right now since I'm going on a trip for 6 weeks out of the country but will be back before the holidays.

Just a few comments for easier understanding. The G71 rough cycle has the ability to do contour parallel and descending contours. However depending on the type of roughing tool used it might not be able to do the descending contour. For that you have G88 and G89. G88 before the G71 cycle will tell the control to rough out the descending contour, G89 will tell it to skip the descending section. For safety the default in the control is G89 - skip

Another small thing is tool nose radius compensation - you can rough with or without tool nose radius compensation, depending where you put your line numbers in the finish contour. If the G46 command for tool nose radius compensation "ON" in the finishing contour comes after the start line number the G71 cycle will use tool nose radius compensation for roughing as well.

The meaning of the letters in G71:

A - would be a subroutine number. Instead of having the finishing contour between line numbers you could call the contour from a subroutine as well.

P - start line number

Q - end line number

I - finishing allowance in X direction

K - finishing allowance in Z direction

D - depth of cut

F - feed rate

E - reduced feed rate for the descending part of the contour if you use the G88 function

S - spindle rpm or constant cutting speed

Good luck Attached Files

You need to develop an application program which runs on ur PC.
This application program can then accesss data over ethernet port of FANUC CNC & then with the use of FOCAS library function it is possible to read various data like Macro variables, parameters etc.
POPEN, PCLOSE commands work only with RS232 yes there is? you can use ftp server no need for focas...

Compensation Type set to control or wear?

Any thoughts Wear setting saves time.

Control setting allows you to use different size cutters.

Have you ask your tool room manager why he wants his people to use computer compensation?

sinumerik 810T programming

Sun, 10/08/2017 - 07:49
We bought emcoturn 425mc with sinumerik 810T operating system few weeks ago. I have never used and program machine like this with two spindles. Maybe somebody who have more experience could help me. I found some programs on machine from previous user and i am trying to understand it i but i have few questions:
1. G53 code works only for one line i dont have to writ G54 after it? Line N220
2. What does code @714 do? Line N110 and N840.
3. In this program i found all T and D numbers from first turret how does machine knows D numbers from second turret because there are working both turrets with this program. Attached Files

Traub issues

Sat, 10/07/2017 - 00:42
Hello there,

I am completely new to CNC machines. I just bought a 1989. Traub TNS 30/42 with 3 revolvers and driven tools. I have 2 issues with it.

1) The chuck won't turn because it says the collet isn't closed. But it physically IS closed, and the bar sits tightly in it. The sensor for that glows green when the collet is open, and turns green/yellow when it closes. So, the sensor reacts. But I am not getting the status light on the front of the machine which should light up as an indicator that the collet is closed, nor will the chuck turn and I am getting an error.

2) The revolver No1 won't rotate it's head in either direction. Revolver No2 is ok, revolver No3 is ok, but the first one won't rotate the head to switch tools manually. Any ideas what it could be?

Thank you in advance, I would really appreciate any input on these matters.
